A lot of people I know are photographers, they're portrait artists like @ryanmuirhead
, people who use space, composition and light like no other. Most of my life I've never considered myself an artist in this area, it's not a medium I ever wanted to subscribe to. I just felt too embedded with my illustration and eye for design. But I've given a few workshops now at some photography spots, which still feels odd as I don't even do it for hire.
But when I got these film rolls back from @indiefilmlab
after caving and telling @orrjosey
that I'd take his portrait, I feel really happy and content with the work I put out here.
Out of frame is a coin he's flipping, something he and I alike have been on both sides of. With a drug addiction that crippled such important moments of his life, I've watched Josey overcome, and work to become a better man everyday. We laugh and always give one another hell just to test the thickness of our skins.
But looking at this - even with it's weird contrived artist direction from me, and though in-between flips his laugh echoed in the old studio, I see this one millisecond of a shutter click that captures the curiosity and tenacity of the human spirit.
Something all of us share.
