This weekend the Track & Field Olympic Time Trials took place. My favorite Olympian, by far, is Ashton Eaton. He has already won Olympic Gold for the decathlon - and is a favorite for Rio. I'm in awe of his skills.
But he's my favorite Olympian for another reason -- his work with Team World Vision. The photo below is from Hood to Coast 2014. He was one of our honoree captains for TWV. And, during my last leg of my run into Portland, Ashton agreed to run alongside me - a 41 year old momma who is so far from being an Olympic hopeful; but, like Ashton, I have a passion for those in need of clean water.
We ran 5 miles together -- the most memorable 5 miles of running in my life. He teased me that he doesn't run that far usually, and I shared I don't normally run his pace, so we were even.
During that time we talked about our involvement with TWV, and about our families. He told me about his wife, also an Olympian and TWV supporter. But what I remember even more so was him sharing about his mom. It was amazing to hear him tell me his childhood stories. (If you want a better perspective on this, check out this short clip - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3fTuP-MbpNs&feature=youtu.be
). I will continue to cheer for my TWV teammate once he arrives in Rio, and am forever grateful for the five miles of friendship we had on that memorable day in Oregon. #twv #teamworldvision #hoodtocoast #htc #olympics #rio #ashtoneaton
